Gradient operator is simple, but accuracy is not high, only to detect the outline of the image generally, and for the more detailed the edge may be ignored. Prewitt and Sobel operator is better than Roberts effect. LOG filter and Canny operator detection better than gradient operator, can detect the edge of a smaller part of the image. Different systems for different environmental conditions and requirements, choose a suitable operator to image edge detection.
