MapWinGIS is a well-known open source ActiveX component that functions like MapX (a well-known component of MapInfo on the Internet). I wrote two routines in VS c ++ 2005, and found it to be good (the development environment is VS c ++ 2005+ sp1, Win XP+ sp3).
