This paper introduces the C6000 series of DSP technology, especially TI company, and prepares the research work for future coding algorithms. After the analysis and comparison of the current video coding standard, the mpeg-4 video coding standard was selected as the control of video coding framework. Then, based on the basic technical analysis of mpeg-4 video compression, combining the features of video and C6211DSP hardware, The algorithm of motion estimation, DCT transformation and quantization were studied in depth. Based on diamond search, background block movement search algorithm and whole block prediscriminant algorithm are used to improve the efficiency of coding program. Subsequently, the paper adopted the software of the improved mpeg-4 video encoder and decoder on the PC, and verified the feasibility of the improved algorithm.
