The state of the economy is constantly changing, and each era is observing its own problems in its own way. In the UK and in continental Europe and the us, the study of economics is now more than ever before; But all this activity is a clearer indication that economics is - and must be - a slow and evolving science. Some of the best books of our time do seem to contradict predecessors' writings. But as the books mature and the rough places have been fixed, we can see that they do not violate the continuity of economic development. The new doctrine complements the old doctrine, expands and develops, and sometimes corrects the old doctrines, and the differences in emphasis tend to make the old theories new; But it rarely overturns old doctrines.
