Description: This paper presents the enhancement of voltage sags/swell harmonic distortion and low power factor using Distribution Static Compensator (D-STATCOM). The model is based on the Voltage Source Converter (VSC) principle. The D-STATCOM injects a current into the system to mitigate the voltage sags/swell. to improve harmonic distortion and low power factor. Description: This paper deals with the design and implementation of a multilevel voltage source converter based static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) employing an effective modulation control technique simulated in a MATLAB Simulink environment. The main objective of this paper is to maintain the voltage stability by compensating the reactive power in the power system. Hence, a new efficient control strategy is proposed, in order to reduce the voltage fluctuations like sag and swell conditions and also to isolate current and voltage harmonics in the transmission system. The multilevel STATCOM which can be used at the point of common coupling (PC C), for improving power quality is modelled and simulated using proposed control strategy and the performance is compared by applying it to an llOkv line with and without STATCOM. Relative Harmonic analysis is also discussed in this paper based on the total harmonic distortion (THD) calculations.

PVarray_Grid_IncCondReg_det.mdl is a detailed model of a 100-kW array connected to a 25-kV grid via a DC-DC boost converter and a three-phase three-level Voltage Source Converter (VSC). Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is implemented in the boost converter by means of a Simulink model using the “Incremental Conductance + Integral Regulator” technique. PVarray_Grid_PandO_avg.mdl is an average model of a 200-kW array connected to a 25-kV grid via two DC-DC boost converters and a single three-phase VSC. The MPPT controller based on the “Perturb and Observe” technique is implemented by means of a MATLAB Function block that generates embeddable C code.

Inverter control incorporates reactive power support in the case of voltage sags based on the grid codes’ (GCs) requirements to ride-through the faults and support the grid voltages. A case study of a 1-MW system simulated in MATLAB/Simulink software is used to illustrate the proposed control. Problems that may occur during grid faults along with associated remedies are discussed. Description: In this paper, an efficient active power filter (APF) scheme is developed to estimate and compensate for harmonic distortion in an electrical power network. The developed APF control scheme is based on a double proportional feedback controller and a single-phase voltage-source half-wave bridge inverter. The proposed filter uses a Multi-layer Artificial Neural Network (MLANN) with a shift method for estimating system harmonic currents and voltages at a dedicated point. The proposed scheme is tested on a 13 bus industrial distribution system. The obtained results ensure the effectiveness of the proposed filter. The system is simulated in MATLAB-Simulink and simulation results prove that the polluting harmonics have been greatly reduced.
