Description: A new analog real-time spectrum analyzer (RTSA) for the analysis of complex non-stationary signals (such as radar, safety and instrumentation, and electromagnetic interference/compatibility signals) is presented. The RTSA utilizes the spatial-frequency mapping (spectral-spatial decomposition) characteristics of compound left/right-handed (CRLH) leaky wave antenna (LWA) to generate real-time spectrum of arbitrary test signals. Compared with digital RTSA, it has the advantages of instant access, low computing cost, frequency scalability and broadband or ultra-wideband operation. Real-time spectrum analyzer needs to detect and monitor ultra-fast transient signal with fast time variation, so as to provide instantaneous frequency evolution in real time.
